YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE:
Reporting to Construction Superintendent, the Civil Technician will perform his/her duties as a member of the Construction Department and collaborate with other departments of the group.
Job Responsibilities:
- Generate and maintain surface models (existing, design, and as-built) from field data, point clouds, and design alignments to support field setting out and execution of earthworks, drainage, utilities, roadworks, and structural works.
- Compute and reconcile earthwork and material volumes (cut/fill, structural excavation, trench, stockpile, and concrete quantities) for daily, weekly, and month-end progress reporting, and assist in generating progress and quantity reports.
- Review as-built submissions from Contractors against design tolerances, surface models, and contract specifications; flag deviations, raise RFIs, and track closure of corrective actions in coordination with Resident engineers.
- Perform topographic, control, and construction surveys using GNSS, total station, and digital levels; install, verify, and maintain primary and secondary survey control across the project.
- Provide setting out data, points, lines, grades, and offsets to field crews and Contractors; perform independent checks of line and grade established by Contractors prior to and during execution.
- Set out anchor bolts, base plates, column lines, and gridlines for structural steel erection; verify plumb, level, alignment, and elevation of erected steel against design tolerances before, during, and after the lift.
- Provide support to the QA/QC team in verifying structural steelwork and building erection for conformance to design, including member orientation, bolt torque/pretension, connection fit-up, camber, and floor/wall framing layout.
- Generate setting-out data for building components (foundations, columns, beams, slabs, cladding, and MEP penetrations); maintain as-built records of erection progress and provide updated coordinates to the Project Team.
- Support building envelope and façade layout surveys; verify elevations, setbacks, and tolerances at each milestone of the erection sequence
- Maintain survey equipment (GNSS rovers, total stations, data collectors, levels, drones) and survey supplies; ensure calibration records and firmware are current.
- Monitor compliance of construction advance and quantities with the Project Schedule and the baseline; communicate survey, setting out, and quantity discrepancies to the Project Team.
- Maintain accurate survey records, field books, traverse reports, coordinate registers, and as-built mark-ups using AutoCAD and Civil 3D (or equivalent).
- Attend to other duties beneficial to the Project as the Project Team requires.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
- Two (2) year Engineering Technician / Geomatics / Survey diploma, Engineer in Training (EIT), or relevant education and/or experience considered.
- Two (2) years of survey experience on civil / infrastructure / capital projects preferred.
- Proficiency with CAD and surface-modeling software (i.e., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Maptek Point Studio, Pix4D) for footprint modeling, surface generation, and volume computations.
- Hands-on experience with GNSS, total station, and digital level fieldwork, including traverse adjustments and control network verification.
- Experience setting out and verifying structural steelwork and building erection (anchor bolts, base plates, columns, beams, slabs, façade) against design tolerances and applicable codes.
- Familiarity with steel detailing / 3D model software (i.e., Tekla Structures, SDS/2, or equivalent) to extract coordinates and check erected members against the model.
- Working knowledge of structural and architectural drawings, shop drawings, and erection sequences; able to read plan, elevation, and section views to verify layout.
- Valid Class G driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Good verbal/written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (i.e., Excel, PowerPoint and Word) is an asset.
- Strong collaborative, organizational, time management, data analysis, and problem-solving skills are an asset.
- Strong commitment to working in a safe, risk aware, and socially responsible manner.
Compensation Statement
In accordance with applicable legislation, the expected compensation includes base salary and potential bonus opportunity. Your individual pay will reflect your skills and experience while remaining competitive within the local market.
Minimum Salary : $77,000.00 Maximum Salary : 103,000.00
