Reporting to the Mill Maintenance Supervisor, the Millwright is responsible for installing, inspecting,
adjusting, and repairing equipment while following safety rules and regulations. You will be required to
maintain all equipment to required standards and be responsive to production needs and equipment
failures. You will work as part of a team but would routinely perform work independently and maintain
a high level of accuracy and safety, while performing your duties. They will interact with Mill employees,
supervisors, coordinators, managers and JHSEC. They must be a committed team player with a strong
knowledge of and dedication to safety and production methods. Other duties will be assigned as per
operational needs.
The list of duties and responsibilities below is not exclusive or exhaustive, and the employee will be
required to undertake such duties as may reasonably be expected within the scope of the position. All
employees are required to be professional, cooperative, and flexible in line with the requirements of the
position.
Operational / Technical Execution:
- Read blueprints, diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work procedures
- Install, align, dismantle and move stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment, such as pumps, fans, tanks, conveyors, furnaces and generators according to layout plans using hand and power tools
- Operate hoisting and lifting devices such as cranes, jacks and tractors to position machinery and parts during the installation, set-up and repair of machinery
- Operate machine tools to fabricate parts required during overhaul, maintenance or set-up of machinery Examine machinery and equipment to detect and investigate irregularities and malfunctions
- Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain process equipment.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain several types of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Perform maintenance functions and duties associated with predictive and preventative maintenance programs.
- Align, level, and install machine sections components and drives ensuring safe lifting procedures.
- Lay out, assemble, and install piping, fitting, valves, and hoses associated with various inflows and outflows throughout the plant.
- Assemble machinery and equipment prior to installation using hand and power tools and welding equipment. Clean and lubricate equipment. General Administration and Controls:
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records, ensuring any changes to systems/equipment are accurately documented.
- Complete inspection reports, daily journals, equipment logs and technical reports.
- Attend safety and other crew meetings, training, and education to workers on regulations in relevant areas such as the OH&S Act.
- Attend daily tailgate safety talks with the maintenance team.
- Participate in safety programs and ensure that all safety standards are achieved.
- Works in compliance with McEwen Ontario’s safety rules and the internal responsibility system.
- Comply with all Safety, Health, Environmental and other policies, procedures, and requirements.
- Lead by example, demonstrating a strong commitment to safety, quality of work, and efficiency. Promote teamwork through leadership and facilitation.
Qualifications and Skills Requirement:
- Legal to work within Canada.
- Successful completion of a post-secondary institution in a mechanical-related program or have acquired qualifications of the trade by progressively advancing through an apprenticeship program to become certified.
- Must possess a valid Journeyman Millwright Interprovincial Certificate.
- A minimum of 3 years trades experience in a heavy industrial field is required.
- Committed to continuous improvement with a vested interest in developing oneself as well as others around them
- Ability to identify, analyze and resolve problems
- Self-starter with a solid technical background and proven troubleshooting skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills while working under pressure requiring immediate response to issues. Good safety knowledge and understanding with the ability to recognize hazards and situations that may cause problems.
- Ability to work safely and effectively in a team environment as well as independently
- Ability to interact with a wide variety of departments/roles within all levels of the organization.
- Work in conjunction with the Mill Planner and Mill Maintenance Supervisor when it comes to preventative maintenance issues and specialized or capital work.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational and presentation skills.
- The ability to work positively with a team of professional and technical people in a changing, creative and energetic environment.
- Assist in training of apprentices on procedures and safe mechanical practices.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
