The Maintenance Person (Certified) is responsible for maintaining facilities and equipment in a safe, orderly, and reliable manner. Reporting to the Building Services Program Lead, this position supports the operation, repair, and upkeep of building systems, equipment, and facility infrastructure.
Responsibilities include installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, building control, and related facility systems. The role also supports preventative maintenance, inspections, equipment repairs, snow removal, exterior grounds maintenance, and general building repairs such as painting, drywall repairs, and light replacement.
The successful candidate must be able to respond to and resolve emergency situations using sound judgment, work with minimal supervision, follow written procedures, and participate in the department’s on-call schedule. Travel to other MICs sites may be required from time to time.

Qualifications
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
- Previous HVAC, mechanical, building automation, and/or facility maintenance experience is considered an asset
- Valid certificate of qualification in a maintenance-related field from the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities
- Plumbing certification is considered an asset
- Proven ability to install, maintain, and repair electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, building controls, and related facility systems
- Knowledge of general and preventative maintenance practices
- Proficiency with standard business computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Ability to respond to and resolve emergency situations using sound judgment
- Ability to understand and follow written procedures, work with minimal supervision, and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
- Physically able to perform assigned duties, including bending, lifting, walking, and lifting up to 50 lbs
- Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation
- A clear criminal record check will be required by the successful candidate as a condition of employment
Compensation
- Hourly wage: $33.35 – $34.77 as per the SEIU collective agreement
- Paid benefits and vacation as per the SEIU collective agreement
- Enroll in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)
