Food Services Officer (On-Call) - Monteith Correctional Complex

Employer: Ministry of the Solicitor General Location: Monteith, ON Job ID: 248151 Position: Food Services Officer (Cook 2) Term: Temporary, irregular on-call contract up to 12 months (possible extension) Pay: $25.62 to $27.70/hour Application Deadline: September 10, 2026

Key Duties

· Prepare and serve meals for approximately 220 inmates and staff

· Maintain kitchen safety, security, and sanitation standards

· Monitor food temperatures and kitchen equipment

· Manage food inventory and supplies

· Provide direction to inmate kitchen helpers

Requirements

· Journeyman Chef Certificate or significant volume cooking experience

· First Aid and Heartsaver certification (or ability to obtain)

· Experience with large-scale food preparation, special diets, food safety, and kitchen operations

· Knowledge of health and safety regulations (WHMIS, OHSA, etc.)

· Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills

Important Notes

· On-call position with 0 to 40 hours per week and no guaranteed hours

· Includes working with inmate helpers

· Security screening required (Vulnerable Sector Check, police records checks, credit history check)
