The Recreation Therapy & Volunteer Coordinator plays an essential role in fostering a vibrant and supportive community within Villa Minto, ensuring that residents enjoy a fulfilling and enriched quality of life. This position supports the development and delivery of recreational and social activities while managing an organized volunteer program that enhances the overall resident experience.
Responsibilities include recruiting and coordinating volunteers, organizing and facilitating recreational programs, maintaining activity records and participation documentation, and collaborating with residents, families, and the interdisciplinary care team to continuously improve programming and resident satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Recreational Therapy Education Certificate or currently enrolled in such a program, or equivalent education
- Membership with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO) or the Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association (CTRA) is considered an asset
- Knowledge of recreational therapy principles and program development
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
- Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) certification or willingness to obtain
- Experience supporting individuals with neurocognitive impairment
- Experience with PointClickCare documentation software considered an asset
- Ability to communicate effectively in English; French is considered an asset
- Basic computer skills and knowledge of community resources
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, maintain confidentiality, and work with minimal supervision
- Physical ability to perform job duties
- A clear vulnerable sector check will be required by the successful candidate as a condition of employment
Compensation
- Rate of pay: $29.88 – $31.05 / hour as per the SEIU collective agreement
- Paid benefits and vacation as per the SEIU collective agreement
- Enroll in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)
