Location: Lady Minto Hospital, Cochrane ON | Contract: Temporary Full-Time
The Ward Clerk supports the efficient operation of the nursing unit by providing clerical and administrative assistance in accordance with the standards and policies of the MICs Group of Health Services. Reporting to the Patient Care Manager, the Ward Clerk plays a key role in coordinating unit activities, managing patient information, and facilitating communication between patients, families, and the interdisciplinary care team.
As a central point of contact, the Ward Clerk is responsible for processing physician orders, coordinating patient admissions, discharges, and transfers, and maintaining accurate documentation and unit records. The role also involves supporting patient services, including responding to inquiries, directing visitors, and ensuring timely communication across departments. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong organizational skills, professionalism, attention to detail, and a commitment to confidentiality, patient safety, and effective team collaboration in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Office or Business Administration preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and standard office equipment
- Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong commitment to confidentiality and professionalism
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with a high degree of accuracy
- Experience in a healthcare or clerical setting considered an asset
- Working knowledge of medical terminology considered an asset
- A clear criminal record check will be required by the successful candidate as a condition of employment
Compensation
- Rate of pay: $28.52 / hour as per the SEIU collective agreement
- Paid benefits and vacation as per the SEIU collective agreement
- Enroll in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)
