About the Role
We are seeking a reliable
and physically capable Labourer/Maintenance Assistant to support our Lead
Carpenter in completing housing repairs, facility maintenance, and construction
projects. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity to gain hands-on
experience in carpentry, painting, drywall finishing, plumbing, and electrical
work while working alongside experienced tradespeople.
In this role, you will assist with a wide range of tasks including carpentry, painting and surface preparation, drywall finishing, basic plumbing and electrical support, exterior construction, and general labour. You'll also help manage tools, materials, and supplies while maintaining safe and clean work sites. This position offers direct pathway into an apprenticeship at Taykwa Tagamou Nation.
Working Conditions: On-site work in various locations, outdoor work in all seasons, physical labour including standing, climbing, and lifting, and occasional regional travel. Personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hat, safety glasses, work gloves, and steel-toed boots is required. Flexible scheduling may be necessary depending on project needs.
Responsibilities
- Provide essential labour support on housing repairs, maintenance, and construction projects
- Assist with carpentry tasks including installation and repair of doors, windows, flooring, decks, and stairs
- Prepare surfaces and assist with interior and exterior painting
- Support drywall patching, sanding, and finishing
- Assist with basic plumbing fixtures and electrical replacements
- Load, unload, and organize materials and supplies
- Maintain clean and safe work sites and follow all safety procedures
- Follow instructions from the Lead Carpenter and take initiative in completing assigned tasks
Qualifications
- Ability to lift and carry up to 23 kilograms regularly; up to 45 kilograms occasionally
- Strong physical stamina and capability to work in various weather conditions
- Willingness to learn and develop construction skills
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work safely
- Reliable and punctual attendance
- Valid driver's licence
- Previous labour or maintenance experience an asset
- Familiarity with hand and power tools
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Interest in pursuing an apprenticeship in the trades
