About the Role
The General Labourer plays a vital role in maintaining safe, clean, and functional community spaces. You will process firewood for residents, operate and maintain equipment, and perform essential community maintenance tasks including road care, snow removal, waste management, and facility upkeep. This is a hands-on position that requires reliability, safety awareness, and a commitment to supporting community well-being.
Responsibilities
- Firewood Processing: Safely operate the Cord King processor and deliver processed firewood to community residents, assisting Elders as needed
- Equipment Operation & Maintenance: Operate tractors, trucks, and utility vehicles; perform routine maintenance, cleaning, and refueling of all equipment
- Community Maintenance: Collect garbage, maintain roads (grading, debris removal, snow removal), post safety signs, and flush wastewater lines
- Facility & Grounds Management: Maintain the community dome/rink, recreational areas, parks, and other properties; assist with landscaping
- Safety & Hazard Management: Ensure the community is free of hazardous materials; safely handle and store industrial chemicals; follow all health and safety protocols
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Valid driver's licence
- Ability to lift and carry up to 23 kilograms safely and regularly
- Knowledge of health and safety practices
- Experience operating heavy equipment or working in grounds/facility maintenance
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Problem-solving and analytical skills
- Heavy equipment operation certifications or training preferred
- First Aid certification preferred
- Experience in community service or outdoor work environments preferred
